Application forms should be filled in fully, legibly and accurately and submitted with passport. Misrepresentation or suppression of facts may result in denial of visa. Application received with incomplete details would remain unprocessed.

TIMINGS

Applications are received at the Counter between 0900 hrs to 1200 hrs on working days. No application is accepted after 1200 hours except in case of emergency, such as death or illness in the family. Passport with valid visas affixed, irrespective of date or time of submission, are delivered only between 3 to 4 PM on working days. Both passports and visas must be checked on receipt and any error in details entered on visas pointed out immediately.

EMERGENCY SERVICE

An amount of US$ 35 is charged over and above the normal fee for rendering emergency service. This service is available only in cases of genuine emergency such as death or serious illness in the family and if the case does not fall under reference categories. This service is available at the counter only and requests received by mail for emergency services are not entertained.

Foreign applicants, who are not resident in Libya and Malta, a reference is made to their country of residence for which an additional fee of US$ 10 is charged. Such cases take five to seven working days processing time after acceptance of application in the Embassy. Please refrain from making inquiries about the status of such applications during this time.

Application from Pakistani/Pakistan-origin passport holders may take minimum 3 months to process. Bangladesh and Sri Lankan passports (including persons of Sri Lankan origin) will take 7 working days to process.

Requirements for Visa Application

Duly filled in Visa Application Form for visa should accompany

  1. Passport;
  2. copy of Passport;
  3. two photograph;
  4. Fee;
  5. Health Insurance;
  6. copy of ticket or provisional booking; and
  7. other document in support.

Passport must be valid for a minimum of six months period from the intended departure for India.

Special forms have to be filled in by citizens of Pakistan (4 copies with 5 photos) and Bangladesh (2 copies with 3 photos).

Bangladeshi, Chinese, Pakistani, and Sri Lankan nationals who are not residents in Libya or Malta are required to apply for visa in the country of their residence.

The duration of visa begins and valid from the date of issue. Visas once issued cannot be converted into other type of visa. Parents can sign visa applications on behalf of their minor children.

TYPES OF VISAS AVAILABLE

Business Visa:

Business Visa is granted to those who intend to do business or commercial activity in India such as making sales or establishing contacts on behalf of a company outside of India. Business visa is issued for one year validity with single, double or multiple entries depending upon the discretion of the issuing authority. Irrespective of the duration of validity of visa, on each visit maximum period of stay in India is limited to 180 days only. A letter from sponsoring organization indicating the nature of applicant's business, probable duration of stay, places and organizations to be visited incorporating therein a guarantee to meet expenses, etc. may accompany the application. Those who intend to work in India should apply for Employment Visa.

Conference Visa:

Letter of invitation from the organizer of the conference and approvals of Indian authorities are to be submitted along with the visa application.

Employment Visa:

An Employment Visa is granted to those who are an employee of an Indian company or a foreign firm registered in India, or those who intend to do honorary work (without salary) with registered NGOs in India. A copy of the contract with the employer has to be enclosed. Kindly note that Employment Visa is given only for jobs that require high level of skills and expertise. The Embassy may grant Employment visa valid for a limited validity irrespective of the duration of the contract. Further extension up to 5 years could be obtained from MHA/FRRO in the concerned state in India. Spouses and children are granted co-terminus entry visas on request.

Entry Visa:

It is issued for legitimate purposes only. Entry visa for longer term may be considered but only for person of Indian origin.

Journalist Visa:

Journalist visas are given to professional journalists and photographers for three months stay in India.

Medical Visa:

Is granted to a foreigner whose sole purpose is to seek medical treatment in established/recognized/specialized hospital/treatment centres in India. Applicant should have assured financial standing. The application should be supported with appropriate medical documents. The validity of visa will be up to a period of one year or the period of treatment which is less.

Missionary Visa:

Valid for single entry and duration as permitted by the Government of India regulations. A letter in triplicate, from sponsoring organization indicating intended destination in India, probable length of stay, and nature of duties to be discharged, should be submitted along with guarantee for applicant's maintenance while in India. Processing of applications for missionaries may take up to three months.

Student Visa:

Depending upon the duration of the course Student Visas is issued for bonafide students to pursue regular studies at recognized institution in India. On provisional admissions, Student Visa is issued for short validity. With confirmed admission letter visa can be given initially for one year or the duration of course whichever is less. A letter confirming admission from such an institution along with evidence of financial arrangements for stay in India should accompany the application. For research purposes detailed synopsis of the research project, countersigned by the sponsoring institution in India should be submitted. Processing of Research Visa applications may take longer time.

Tourist Visa :

A Tourist visa can only be granted to a foreigner who does not have a residence or occupation in India and whose sole objective of visiting India is recreation, sightseeing, or casual visit to meet friends, relatives etc. No other kind of activity is permissible on a Tourist Visa. A Tourist Visa may be issued normally for three to six months with single, double or multiple entries, is non-extendable and non-convertible. The duration and number of entry of the visa remains solely at the discretion of the issuing authority. Visa fee once paid is non-refundable, irrespective of the outcome of the visa application and duration granted.

Applicant once issued Tourist Visa can apply for new Tourist Visa only after at least two months from the date of last exit from India. There has to be minimum two months gap between the date of last exit from India and the date of next entry to India. Re-entry on a double entry visa is allowed only from the neighbouring countries i.e. Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Thailand etc. Applicant is required to provide a travel itinerary with support document.

If an applicant intends to again travel within a period of two months from the last exit date, he/she is required to obtain a special re-entry permit from the Indian Embassy.

Kindly ensure all the fields of the visa application form are completely filled before submitting including your Libya and India referees. Please note if you are going for tourism purposes and do not have Indian referees kindly attach a self-undertaking that you will book your accommodation/ hotels on arrival in India.

Transit Visa:

Valid for single/double entry for short stop over for travelling to a third country is available. Confirmed onward tickets must accompany the applications.

Transfer of visa:

For transfer of valid visas from expired passport to the new passport, application form is accepted with one photo and required fees.

How to apply by mail

Applicants if they so choose can also send applications by courier. Depending upon the traffic, application is processed in two to four days. This time schedule does not apply to services for which required reference is made to competent authorities in India. Telephone or written enquiries should be avoided before reasonable amount of time.

Fee should be paid only in cash. The applicant must make his/her own arrangements for collection of passport from Embassy.
